About Us
Who are we?
We are members of the Ugandan community living in Thailand, and we recognize that we share common geographical, social, cultural, occupational, and economic interests; desirous of pursuing and promoting those interests, realizing that the fulfillment of this desire is a function of our effort. Our aim is to promote the social, cultural, educational, and economic development of the Ugandan Community in Thailand and beyond.
Following our first meeting, in 2015, we resolved to come together and form an association with a view of attaining the following:
- To enable, stimulate and promote acquaintance, friendship, and unity among Ugandans living in Thailand, and beyond by fostering Educational, Social, and Cultural activities and interaction within and between our local communities and across the Kingdom.
- To address the needs and challenges peculiar to our members by promoting co-operative efforts and developing strategic partnerships with charity, cultural, educational, economic empowerment, and other social service Organizations.
- To increase awareness and facilitate access to the gainful exploitation of educational, entrepreneurial and employment opportunities in Thailand through better networking, training, and other innovative programs.
- To build partnerships with key stakeholders that will facilitate the growth of cultural, philanthropic, economic, and educational interests between the people of Uganda, Thailand, and Southeast Asia.
- To promote and protect our unique Ugandan cultural identity through regular social and cultural activities.
- To guide, counsel and advise new members on Thai Visa laws, policies and regulations.
- To equip Ugandans living in Thailand with the rightful consular services, and information and explain the appropriate instances in which the Embassy in Malaysia can help members.
Our Purpose
Ugandan Community in Thailand exists as a non-profitable organization with a promise that, we have unique educational, economic, social, and cultural needs that can be better served and fulfilled in our own organization. Hence, the objectives of the community are:
- To stimulate and encourage countrywide acquaintance and togetherness (fellowship) among members in Thailand.
- To develop through research, discussion, and exchange of information a better understanding of problems facing members.
- To encourage business relationships and interaction.
- To promote unity and friendship.
- To promote and foster social, cultural, economic, and philanthropic activities and share the same with Thai people or other groups.
- To address needs peculiar to members of the association.
Key Aspects of Our Association
- Our Association runs and coordinates its activities through regular virtual, and physical meetings, networking activities, professional and business development seminars, and workshops.
- We do ask members to contribute an annual subscription fee of 500 baht to support the association activities.
- We are an equal opportunity organization that does not discriminate any member for any purpose, such as race, colour, religious or political affiliation, gender, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, nationality, or We are nondenominational, non-sectarian, non-political, and not-for-profit. In any official writing of the Association or public address, wherever reference is made to a masculine gender, reference will also be made to a feminine gender; thus he/she; his/hers.
- Our committee members are elected every month of October and serve a minimum of one year term in office. Except for the post of Chairperson, committee members are free to seek re-election in their previous offices or run for new All contestants must prepare and present their manifestos to the members, and campaign before elections. The Chairperson of the Association serves duration of one term, thereafter, he/she is elevated to an advisor role. Different Heads of Department do present their annual reports, plans and goals including an audited financial report. All Departmental Heads are accountable for the activities in their department. Each department consists of two (2) members and the departmental heads hold meetings to draft annual plans for their department, adopt rules of procedure, maintain records of its proceedings, and report the said proceedings to the Committee and the entire members of the association.
The Association Achievements
The association has achieved the following:
- We managed to draft a constitution that guides us through the entire process of running our activities.
- We were able to trace, register and keep records of our people in the association database.
- We have also tried to unite our people and give visa/work-related guidance and assistance, especially to the new members.
- We have offered support to our brothers and sisters affected by the pandemic, and those in jail, and participated in charity activities. We have also helped in the repatriation of bodies of fallen brethren who died here and repatriate them back to Uganda with the support of our people.
- We have our association website where we publish our activities, goals, plans, and prospects.
Our Plans
We plan to do the following activities for the community:
- Registration of our association to build a strong community of Ugandans in Thailand. We want to be formally recognized by the Thailand government as a community of experts and professionals living in the kingdom.
- Identify business opportunities that can create links between Thailand and Uganda.
